Brayton Cycle

Brayton Cycle is named after American Engineer George Brayton.

  • A theoretical thermodynamic cycle describing the working of a constant pressure heat engine.
  • Gas turbines and Air-breathing jet engines use this cycle.
  • It is also called Joule cycle.
  • It consists of two reversible adiabatic or isentropic process and two constant pressure process.



Efficiency is given by

η = 1- [1/rp((γ-1)/γ)]
where rp is Pressure Ratio and Gamma (γ) is Heat Capacities (Cp/Cv) Ratio
