Factor of Safety

           While designing a component, it is necessary to provide sufficient reserve strength in case of an accident.
             This is achieved by taking a suitable factor of safety.
          Factor of safety defined as the ratio of maximum stress working stress.
Factor of safety = maximum stress / working stress.
          Factor of safety for ductile material,
              Fs = Yield stress / working stress
         Factor of safety for brittle material
              Fs = Ultimate stress / working stress
